Allow yourself to be helped

I recently came across this video about what a doula is. The video is part of a series in which actress Danielle Brooks discusses all things pregnancy, birth and beyond as she is expecting her firstborn child. Here is the link to the video What's a doula? / Danielle Brooks finds out

Here are a few takeaways from the video:

  • Think carefully about “picking your team” for the birth and for after the baby arrives.

  • It is nice to get an objective, non-judgmental opinion. Being non-judgmental might be hard for some friends or family members.

  • There’s a doula for everyone. If you cannot afford a doula, look into volunteer doulas or ask a friend who had a doula for her top tips.

  • One of those tips is to write a list of information/answers and hang it up outside your front door so you don’t have to answer the same questions over and over again when a visitor comes.

  • Lastly, allow yourself to be helped! You, as well as your partner, will be grateful.
